PETALING JAYA
A man in his 20s died from heatstroke in Kuantan, Pahang, yesterday while taking part in a race up Bukit Pelindung.

The Pahang health department said the hike started at 6.40am and the victim was found unconscious on the hiking track of the Bukit Pelindung recreational forest at about 3pm.

State health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the man was in critical condition and was taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

He died at 9.39pm due to heatstroke with multi-organ failure, said Rusdi, according to Sinar Harian.

Rusdi said it was the second heatstroke-related death reported in Pahang this year, after a Civil Defence Force personnel died during training at Bandar Jengka, Maran, in February.

He said Pahang has seen 18 cases involving illnesses due to hot weather, of which 14 were linked to heat exhaustion, and four linked to heatstroke. They included the two deaths. - FMT
