PETALING JAYA
Orang Asli residents of Kuala Betis in Kelantan have called for the installation of an ATM and cash deposit machine in their area following pleas by other communities which resulted in four ATMs being installed since August.

Siti Nornadia Kamarzaman, 37, said villagers in the Kuala Betis resettlement area must travel over 70km to the nearest bank in Gua Musang town.

We are asking for an ATM and cash deposit machine to be provided here because Kuala Betis is the entry and exit point for the Orang Asli in the rural settlements in the Galas and Nenggiri state constituencies,
 she said.

Residents from Pos Hau, Pos Belatim, Pos Balar, Pos Bihai, Pos Simpor and Pos Gob have to ride motorbikes for more than 70km to get to Gua Musang town,
 Bernama quoted her as saying.

Some villagers without their own vehicles have to rent a car for about RM50 to make the 40-minute journey, said Norasyikin Uda, 46.

Galas assemblyman Syahbuddin Hashim has said he would try to get an ATM installed in Kuala Betis.

Four ATMs have been installed in the Nenggiri constituency, where a by-election was held in August. The four ATMs are in Jerek Baru, Bertam, Rantau Manis and Jeram Tekoh, which is still far from Kuala Betis. - FMT
