SAR operation at Jalan Masjid India halted after 9 days

THE search and rescue (SAR) operation for the sinkhole incident on Jalan Masjid India was abruptly halted on Saturday.

Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced that the search and rescue (SAR) operation had reached its ninth day since it began on Aug 23.

The incident involved a female Indian national. After reporting to the Cabinet and consulting with experts, Dr Zaliha stated that the decision was made to halt the SAR operation.

“We gathered expertise from various agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), the Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG), the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, and others,” she said in a press conference at the site.

The decision to stop the SAR was based on site findings and safety concerns for the rescue teams. DBKL has now been instructed to carry out recovery and reconstruction in the affected areas on Jalan Masjid India, as well as to conduct utility mapping and soil structure studies across Kuala Lumpur. – Focus Malaysia
