PAS won't force non-Muslims to change lifestyle if PN rules Selangor, says leader

A PAS leader today assured non-Muslims in Selangor that they have nothing to fear in the event Perikatan Nasional gets to govern the state.

Selangor PAS chief Ab Halim Tamuri said they always respect the rights of non-Muslims and would never force them to change their lifestyle.

“Non-Muslim citizens should not fear PAS because this is our assurance: we will not disturb or force them to change their lifestyle, because it is their right.

“We will see to it (because) PAS and PN only want to take care of the rakyat,” he said after a party event held at the Bangi Convention Centre.

Elaborating, Halim said PAS also has to spread awareness among non-Muslims that the party’s struggle is to ensure the welfare of all races.

The Paya Jaras assemblyperson said Selangor residents deserve a better state government than what they have today.

Despite Selangor being the most developed state in Malaysia, its rakyat has continued to face fundamental issues, he claimed.

“One of the pressing issues is floods, which have hit many areas in the state including Sungai Buloh, Selayang, and Gombak, among others.

“Such basic problems like flood, sanitation, and blocked drainage should not have been an issue in Selangor in the first place, because it is already a developed state.

“That is why I said Selangor people deserve better,” he said. - Mkini
