The police will be offering up to 60% in discounts on traffic summonses during the unity government’s second anniversary celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre this weekend.

Home ministry corporate communications secretary Fairul Nizam Che Rus said this was higher than the 50% discount offered during last year’s one-year anniversary event, Bernama reported.

“With a larger venue this year, we are setting up 25 counters for the payment of summonses. The counters will operate from 9am to 6pm from Friday to Sunday,” he said.

The unity government’s one-year anniversary celebration at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium last year saw thousands of visitors left frustrated after being forced to wait for hours to settle their summonses.

The crowd had started to arrive as early as 8am, and three hours later, more than 4,000 people had registered in the queueing system, with fewer than 200 people having been served.

As the frustration and anger built up, many slammed the organisers for their poor management of the programme.

Fairul said this year’s event would showcase the services and achievements of the home ministry’s agencies in the past two years.

This includes advancements in public safety, the management of foreigners and citizenship matters, as well as improvements at international entry points.
