PETALING JAYA: Amanah plans to combat claims that Islam is under threat with Pakatan Harapan at the helm of the federal government, party president Mohamad Sabu said today.
He said the “takfiri” ideology used by PH’s rivals had affected the party at the 2022 general election and the six state elections in August last year.
“This cost us 22 state seats in Selangor, left us with only three seats in Kedah and none at all in Terengganu, while causing losses in other states as well,” he said at the Selangor Amanah convention today, Bernama reported.
He said the use of the ideology as a political tool was a dangerous perception.
“The claim that Islam is under threat and must be saved by rejecting PH and its coalition partners was a perception planted by our opponents to manipulate the public.
“This ideology persists within our society and we will fight it with sound arguments, in line with the concept of Islam as a blessing for all,” he was quoted as saying.
Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, said Amanah members must consistently counter these claims whether on the ground or on social media.
Separately, he said seat allocations in future elections were a lower priority compared to ensuring victory for candidates fielded by government coalition parties.
He added that the allocation of seats depended on the outcome of talks between allies in the unity coalition. - FMT
