Anwar heavily criticised for ‘zaman edan’ statement

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is facing heavy criticism on social media for saying we are living in ‘zaman edan’ or an “Era of madness: those who steal, rob, and plunder are celebrated.”

Anwar Ibrahim was responding to criticism regarding the costs of his recent visit with a delegation to five countries.

He emphasised that all procedures were carried out transparently and in an orderly manner.

He also pointed out that industry delegations, including companies like Proton, Petronas, Sapura Energy, Top Glove, and others, covered their own expenses.

However, netizens are out to tell Anwar that he is apparently misleading the people since his government has also done what he is criticising.

An X user commented critically and sarcastically, questioning political decisions and alliances. The user accuses PMX of hypocrisy for supporting individuals or entities they once criticised.

Specifically, the netizen highlights the allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with 47 cases who has now been appointed to a position of power.

They also reminded the top political figure in Malaysia that he fought on the streets for reformasi but once in power, the reforms remain unfulfilled.

Another user thought the PM was acting like a hero but behaving like a villain, again pointing out contradictions in his policies.

Anwar announced a “no gift” and “no private sponsor” policy earlier during his tenure. Now these, according to netizens, are seen as disregarded, and it suggests that if they hadn’t previously mentioned these policies, no one would have been able to criticise them.

Some netizens are, of course backing Anwar. A user uploaded a poster showing the performances of the Anwar government against that of the opposition.

It says Anwar is being criticised for not taking a salary but when the opposition states want to grant bonuses to civil servants, they have to ‘beg’ the federal government led by Anwar for funds.—Focus Malaysia
