PETALING JAYA: Selangor Bersatu chairman Azmin Ali says he has accepted the party’s secretary-general position, as recently announced by party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Kosmo reported him as saying Muhyiddin had offered him the position at a special party conference held in Selayang, in July.
Azmin said in several other meetings after the conference, he had expressed his readiness to help Muhyiddin and Bersatu Supreme Council members strengthen the party.
He added that he is ready to take on the huge responsibility of raising Bersatu’s political standing.
“I believe Malaysians are waiting for the right people to find solutions to current challenges such as political, economic and social issues that are close to their hearts,” he said.
It was previously reported that the Hulu Kelang assemblyman had declined Muhyiddin’s offer as he wanted to focus on leading Selangor Perikatan Nasional in its mission to capture the state at the next election.
Azmin sat out Bersatu’s party elections on Nov 2, amid speculation that he was to take over from Hamzah Zainudin as the new secretary-general. Muhyiddin retained the Bersatu presidency uncontested in the party polls while Hamzah faced no contest for the deputy president’s post. - FMT
