PETALING JAYA
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that it summoned the former CEO of Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) Sdn Bhd, Jontih Enggihon, to assist in an investigation related to a corruption case.

Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed that Jontih was called in for questioning, Harian Metro reported.

Jontih was said to have gone to the MACC headquarters at 2.30pm yesterday.

He was summoned following MACC’s investigation into a corruption case involving mineral project licences, with links to a businessman who had dealings with several Sabah assemblymen.

Earlier today, a news portal reported that Jontih was questioned for nearly seven hours over an MACC report lodged against him.

On Monday, SMM was reported to have accused Jontih of breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and misconduct, with reports filed with the police and MACC over his actions.

SMM CEO Natasha Sim said Jontih’s alleged wrongdoing was uncovered following a comprehensive internal probe into his affairs while holding the post.

She claimed that this included breaches of fiduciary duties, fraudulent activities, misrepresentation to the SMM board of directors, and misconduct.

Police and MACC reports have been filed against Jontih accusing him of colluding with a purported whistleblower behind the videos alleging corruption involving several Sabah assemblymen.

Last Sunday, Jontih denied the allegations and said the claim that he acted as a middleman between the whistleblower and assemblymen was a “total lie”.

He said he had evidence to back his claim that Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor had abused his powers, saying this included text messages from Hajiji, briefing notes, and the minutes from the SMM board of directors meetings.

So far, MACC has summoned five assemblymen to provide their statements. - FMT
