PETALING JAYA: Internal conflicts within Perikatan Nasional suggest that the alliance between PAS and Bersatu may be on the brink of collapse, said Pakatan Harapan communications director Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also the PKR information chief, pointed to the ongoing dispute over the prime ministerial candidate and, more recently, the removal of two Bersatu representatives from the Perlis state executive council as proof of increasing strains.
In addition to internal issues, he said, the opposition’s performance in providing check-and-balance in the Dewan Rakyat had been lacklustre.
“They (opposition) are unable to discuss substantive issues (in Parliament). For two consecutive years, they failed to present an alternative budget,” he was quoted as saying in a Bernama report.
He made these comments after attending the launch of the MYTV Mana-Mana app at Proton IHU today. He was asked about the removal of two Bersatu assemblymen from the PN-led Perlis state executive council.
A local news portal reported that the removal was politically motivated rather than performance-related.
On the issue of the language used in business signages, Fahmi said the matter should not be politicised, as regulations governing language use had long been in place.
“In terms of enforcement, it is hoped that action will not be taken only when the issue becomes viral on social media,” the government spokesman, who is also the Lembah Pantai MP, said.
“If the signage has been identified as violating regulations, action should be taken promptly as this can create a wrong perception among the public.”
The controversy over business signage not using the national language recently went viral on social media, sparking a heated debate among lawmakers in Parliament. - FMT
