PETALING JAYA: Sarawak will be a key supplier in the global natural gas supply chain with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as the state’s sole gas aggregator, says premier Abang Johari Openg.
Abang Johari said Petros will manage the distribution of Sarawak’s natural gas strategically to maximise its potential, serving as a catalyst of industrial growth in the state and even the region.
Launching the Sarawak Gas Roadmap summit in Kuching today, he said the 2021 blueprint aims to expand the state’s gas infrastructure and networks, and turn Sarawak into a hub for gas-based industries, Dayak Daily reported.
He also said the roadmap was a significant milestone in the state, bolstering its energy security and power generation capacity.
Sarawak has sought to have state-owned Petros take control over the buying and selling of gas in the state.
Petronas, which holds a monopoly over petroleum and gas resources, has sought to delay implementation of the Sarawak law on gas distribution, which provides for Petros to be the sole gas aggregator in the state.
Both parties are said to be continuing discussions on the matter, but Abang Johari previously said he was ready to go to court if any party disrespected Sarawak’s right as the state’s sole gas aggregator. - FMT
