PETALING JAYA
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has urged party members to strengthen their ties now that the party’s elections have concluded “flawlessly”.

Muhyiddin expressed confidence in the new leadership lineup and encouraged them to perform their responsibilities diligently as they steer the party forward.

“This is the time to come together and reinforce the party, ensuring our struggle’s continuity and preparing for bigger challenges ahead,” he said in a statement.

Former ministers Ronald Kiandee, Radzi Jidin and Ahmad Faizal Azumu were elected today as Bersatu’s three vice-presidents for the 2024-2027 term.

Kiandee and Radzi successfully defended their posts for a second term. Under a “formula” which Muhyiddin proposed in July, Faizal agreed to contest the vice-presidency instead of defending the deputy presidency.

Muhyiddin said the arrangement would allow secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin to take over as deputy president.

Muhyiddin had also proposed that Kiandee and Radzi fill the other vice-presidents’ posts.

There were no major upsets in the Supreme Council lineup, with the bigwigs such as Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah, Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid and Tanah Merah MP Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz all elected to the top leadership as expected.

Former Johor menteri besar Dr Sahruddin Jamal and Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin were also elected into the Supreme Council. - FMT
