Doctor who treated Anwar's black eye in 1998 passes away

PETALING JAYA: The doctor who treated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s eye after he was punched while in prison in 1998, Datuk Dr Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, has passed away.

The Prime Minister shared the sad news of the doctor’s passing on Facebook.

According to Anwar, the ophthalmologist appeared as a witness in the Royal Commission of Inquiry established to investigate his black eye while in prison.

According to him, the services and sincerity shown by the late Dr Ahmad Shukri would always be in his memory.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of a family friend, Datuk Dr Ahmad Shukri Mohamed. The deceased was the ophthalmologist who treated me when I was beaten in police custody in 1998.

“The deceased was also among those who appeared as a witness to give evidence to the Royal Commission of Inquiry to deny the accusation that I had injured myself.

“The services and sincerity of the deceased will always be etched in my memory,” said Anwar
