Zakat board seeks parents of baby whose body was mishandled

 

Police said the father had filed a report alleging that the baby’s remains were kept by a private hospital’s mortuary for two weeks in a dispute over an unpaid bill.

The parents of a stillborn baby, whose body was allegedly kept in the mortuary of a private hospital for two weeks, have been urged to come forward to the Selangor zakat board for assistance.

The board’s chief executive, Sabirin Mohd Sarbini, said there had been no response to attempts to track down the couple, as well as the sources who released their story.

“We are making efforts to locate them, and if the couple come forward, it will expedite the assistance process,” he said. Sabirin said the board would provide aid, based on the couple’s eligibility, if they qualify under the asnaf gharimin category (hardcore poor who are in debt).

Yesterday, the Selangor Islamic religious council said it had not received any reports regarding the alleged mishandling of the baby’s remains.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said yesterday that the police would summon hospital representatives for their statements about the father’s complaint that the hospital in Klang kept the body for two weeks after the father was unable to pay the hospital bill. - FMT
