PETALING JAYA
About 87% of those interviewed in a survey agree that the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) should be extended.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said the survey was conducted by the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (Midas) and involved 3,092 respondents, aged between 16 and 60, Bernama reported.

The survey included parents who wanted their children to have a clear direction in life.

As such, Johari said the government hoped that PLKN 3.0 can foster good qualities among young people in the country.

PLKN 3.0 is expected to start with a trial run involving 148 male and 52 female trainees, from Jan 12 to Feb 25.

Johari said the government also wanted to teach youths to develop leadership skills.

“They don’t know how to become leaders. So, we hope to cultivate this during the PLKN training,” he said at an event in Kulai today.

Johari said the PLKN 3.0 module would involve 70% military training. The trainees would also get help in improving their personal skills in terms of speaking and thinking.

He hoped the trainees would later join the Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) or take up technical and vocational education and training. - FMT
