A PKR member leading a group representing taxi drivers has issued an invitation for party president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to attend a Sept 27 rally in support of his administration.
Online portal Free Malaysia Today quoted Gabungan Teksi SeMalaysia president Kamarudin Hussain as saying the rally will be held at Dataran Merdeka, where some 25,000 protesters had gathered last Saturday, calling for Anwar’s resignation.
Dubbed “Kekal Anwar”, the rally reportedly aimed at highlighting public support for Anwar’s leadership and his administration’s efforts to carry out reforms.
“We may only represent a small segment of society, but we believe our voice and our presence will have an impact not only within the country but also in the eyes of the international community,” Kamarudin, a former Selayang PKR chief contender, said at a press conference today.
Kamarudin’s initial victory against Rawang assemblyperson Chua Wei Kiat for the Selayang PKR chief post in the last divisional-level polls was nullified in a re-election held over complaints of alleged irregularities.
According to FMT, Kamarudin said the taxi drivers believe Anwar has the vision and capability to steer the country towards a more just and prosperous future.
Apart from Anwar, Kamarudin also reportedly invited students, civil society groups and political parties from Pakatan Harapan and BN to the rally, urging them to stand together in stating their support for the current government. - Mkini
