Commando badly injured after parachute landing goes wrong

MELAKA: A commando suffered broken ribs and a suspected neck fracture after a parachute landing went wrong during a demonstration on Sunday.

A seven-second video of the incident involving the corporal from the Special Warfare Training Centre has since gone viral.

The victim was participating in a free-fall demonstration held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Special Forces Regiment (GGK).

An eyewitness, known only as Shahmi, said he saw the commando struggling in the air.

"At first, I saw the personnel appearing to struggle in the air and spinning before landing at high speed and crashing. He was assisted by several soldiers on duty before being taken away in a military ambulance," he said.

The commando, an assistant instructor at the training centre at Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang, is currently receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital. - NST
