Moderate earthquake hits southern Sumatra, no tsunami threat, says MetMalaysia

 


KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck southern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 8.22am on Saturday (Dec 27) morning.

In a statement on Saturday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) advised that the tremor was centred at coordinates 5.6° South and 102.2° East, at a depth of 70 kilometres.

The epicentre was located approximately 199 kilometres south of Bengkulu, Indonesia.

However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia. - Bernama
