Perlis political saga: Bersatu to summon state reps over alleged SDs

Bersatu will summon all five of its Perlis state assemblypersons over their alleged statutory declarations (SDs) declaring a loss of confidence in Perlis Menteri Besar Shukri Ramli.

Party president Muhyiddin Yassin said Bersatu did not issue any such instruction to the elected representatives and would seek their explanation over the matter.

"I would like to stress that no instruction was issued by Bersatu to our members of the Perlis state legislative assembly party to sign any SD.

"Bersatu only submitted the name of a candidate for the Perlis menteri besar position after being instructed by the Istana of Perlis to do so.

"Therefore, Bersatu will seek explanations from the state assembly members to determine what happened in this issue," he said in a statement today.

Muhyiddin, who is Perikatan Nasional chairperson, added that the opposition coalition also respects PAS' position as the party that is leading Perlis PN.

"I hope the issue regarding the Perlis menteri besar post can be resolved in the spirit of the PN big family," he said.

Politics in Perlis has been in turmoil following moves to remove Shukri through the actions of eight assembly members - three from PAS and five from Bersatu.

They are also said to have submitted SDs to the Perlis ruler, declaring a loss of confidence in Shukri.

Shukri, who is also the Sanglang assemblyperson, has since announced his resignation as Perlis menteri besar. - Mkini
