KUALA LUMPUR: Improper parking at a highway rest and relaxation (R&R) area has sparked online outrage after viral videos showed heavy vehicles stranded for hours due to indiscriminately parked cars.
The videos, shared by DashCam Malaysia on Facebook, show several vehicles parked along the main access road, narrowing the entry route into the R&R and obstructing the movement of lorries and buses.
In the first clip, a lorry attempting to pass through the narrow lane was seen scraping the left side of two parked cars, damaging their front sections.
A second video shows a group of men trying to lift and manually move one of the cars further to the right to clear space for larger vehicles.
"The public is reminded to park only in designated bays to avoid inconveniencing other road users, especially heavy vehicles," the post added.
Netizens were quick to criticise the car owners involved, with many saying the damage was a consequence of irresponsible parking and warning of possible insurance complications.
@Hidung Belang claimed to have watched a live broadcast by the lorry attendant on TikTok, saying the lorry had been stuck for nearly an hour, with several buses queued behind it.
"The driver tried all sorts of ways to get through but failed. Many people gathered and told them to just drag the cars aside," the user wrote.
@Azizie Mislan commented: "This won't pass an insurance claim as the car wasn't parked in a proper bay. Even if a report is made, there's a risk the police will reprimand them instead."
Shaiful Yusof expressed hope that the incident would serve as a lesson, saying: "Hopefully this becomes a reminder to the car owners."
Meanwhile, Zamri Zamkecik voiced support for the lorry drivers, saying the illegally parked cars had inconvenienced others.
"Well done. I support the lorry drivers, this kind of behaviour causes trouble for everyone.
"If a police report is lodged and the fine is paid before January next year, there may be a discount. The fine might only be around RM90, but the car owners will likely have to claim their own insurance," he said. - NST
