KUALA LUMPUR: Football observer Zakaria Rahim has urged the FA of Malaysia (FAM) executive committee to resign collectively following FIFA sanctions over a document falsification scandal involving seven heritage players.
Zakaria said the leadership must take responsibility for the issue to pave the way for a total overhaul of the national governing body.
"If the FAM exco truly loves Malaysian football and does not want it to be buried... especially with football set to be contested at the 2027 KL SEA Games, then step down honourably," Zakaria said in a Facebook post.
He said that staying in power would signal that the committee is prioritising self-interest over the sport.
FAM lodged a report at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters on Wednesday over the alleged falsification of documents involving seven Harimau Malaya heritage players.
The players involved are Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, Hector Hevel, Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garced, Imanol Machucha, and Rodrigo Holgado.
Acting FAM president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said the police report was made following recommendations from an independent investigation committee. - NST
