UMNO’s probably strongest defender of race and religion today, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, is seeming rallying Malays to withdraw support from the Madani government after the Kuala Lumpur High Court today (Dec 22) rejected the house arrest option for disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
This effectively means that the 10-term Pekan MP shall remain in the Kajang Prison to complete his jail sentence for misappropriating RM42 mil from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
“What else do we have to wait for? Let’s be a dignified opposition instead of being insulted by these stupid tribes,” the UMNO Youth chief penned on his Facebook page in reaction to the former UMNO president’s failed bid to obtain house arrest in lieu of remaining behind bars.
“I ask all the delegates who’re attending the UMNO General Assembly 2025 to be in unison and be brave to bring the voices of the rakyat and grassroot Malays to the forefront.”
Recall that High Court judge Alice Loke Yee Ching had this morning (Dec 22) ruled as invalid Najib’s judicial review application to enforce an alleged royal addendum by former Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah that would have allowed him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
This is given the addendum order was made in excess of Article 42 of the Federal Constitution and did not comply with the mandatory procedures governing the exercise of the royal prerogative of mercy.
Citing a FB post by DAP Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin who likened the High Court’s ruling as “a cause for celebrating the forthcoming New Year”, the Merlimau state assemblyman berated:
Let the (UMNO) general assembly this time be shaken once again by becoming a sacred voice field for the Malays (to express their disgruntlements)! Don’t be afraid, don’t be intimidated!
I also want to send a message to Yeo Bee Yin(杨美盈) that don’t forget that another reason for you to celebrate this year is that your party was totally rejected in Sabah! – Focus Malaysia
