KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has proposed reviving Muafakat Nasional, which previously saw political cooperation between Umno and Pas.
Akmal made the call amid ongoing political turmoil in Perlis after eight Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen allegedly withdrew their support for Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, a move that could potentially lead to by-elections in three seats.
"Since we are dissolving it anyway, why not dissolve PN altogether and re-establish Muafakat Nasional? What do you think?" he asked.
He continued his Facebook post in a sarcastic tone, reminding readers that there had long been warnings to strengthen Muafakat Nasional.
"Perlis, oh Perlis. We have been saying since long before the 15th General Election to strengthen Muafakat Nasional, not Perikatan Nasional.
"Only now are everyone's true colours showing, being stabbed in the back," he added.
Last night, Pas said it had sacked three Perlis assemblymen from the party.
They are Chuping assemblyman Saad Seman, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).
Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had said that the decision to terminate the membership of the three was made by the party's Central Working Committee at a meeting held yesterday.
Earlier today, Perlis State Legislative Assembly Speaker Rus'sele Eizan declared the three seats vacant.
He said he would notify the Election Commission (EC) of the vacancies in Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji soon. - NST
