2 fireworks traders fined RM2,000 for negligence in JB stall fire

PETALING JAYA:
 Two fireworks traders were each handed a RM2,000 fine for negligently handling explosive substances, which resulted in their stall catching fire and damaging two nearby vehicles.

Othman Abu Kasim, 31, and Husaini Ehsa, 36, pleaded guilty after the charge was read at the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court, Berita Harian reported.

Magistrate Nabilah Nizam ordered the pair to serve four months in jail if they failed to pay the fine.

The duo was charged with negligently handling explosive substances and endangering human life at Jalan Bunga Kemboja Majidee, Kampung Dato Sulaiman Menteri in Johor Bahru around 8.20pm on March 23.

The charge was framed under Section 286 of the Penal Code which provides for up to six months in prison, a maximum RM2,000 fine, or both, upon conviction. - FMT
