Former minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has raised concerns about Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil’s alleged backing of inaccurate news regarding Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).
Nik Nazmi, who is a Bersama co-leader alongside Rafizi Ramli, highlighted on X that Fahmi’s TikTok account had reposted a video uploaded by user “MayaAlesya” three days ago.
The video, which claimed that Rafizi had “bought” Bersama for RM8.6 million, questioned the source of Rafizi’s funds and accused the former economy minister of harbouring ill intentions against his and Nik Nazmi’s former party, PKR.
“Where did Rafizi get his funds? Are they proceeds from a corruption scandal, or did he get money from George Soros (Hungarian-American investor and political activist)?” the 56-second video questioned.
“Actually, Rafizi’s main purpose in launching Bersama is not for the people’s benefit, but to seek revenge against his old party and the government.
“When his personal interests are no longer accepted in PKR, Rafizi will use his new party to spread perceptions and political formulas so that the rakyat will believe in him,” the video claimed.

Malaysiakini’s checks confirmed that Fahmi’s TikTok account had reposted the video, which remains accessible as of press time.
In an X post yesterday, Nik Nazmi pointed out that Fahmi’s sharing of the allegedly slanderous content contradicts the Communications Ministry’s tagline “Tidak Pasti Jangan Kongsi”, which warns social media users against sharing unverified information.
“(Fahmi) reposted content which said that Rafizi bought Bersama for RM8.6 million - who is their source?
“Will the MCMC investigate this posting if (the information) is false?” Nik Nazmi questioned.

Malaysiakini has contacted Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson and PKR information chief, and the MCMC for their response to the matter, but has yet to receive a reply.
During the May 17 event, when Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced their new political endeavour, the former said that Bersama co-founder Tan Gin Theam had willingly handed over the party as part of efforts to improve the nation’s political landscape.
Rafizi, a former PKR deputy president, has since indicated that Tan was also motivated by political ideals and implied that no money changed hands during the takeover.
‘Foreign funding’
This is not the first time Fahmi’s TikTok account has reposted questionable content.
Two weeks ago, the account reposted two videos by Selangor Amanah communications committee member Ezzat Kamaruddin, which claimed that a youth NGO had received RM54 million allegedly from a pro-Zionist external source.
The videos asserted that the money was purportedly used to fund cybertroopers among youths.

Ezzat further alleged that the NGO was funded by the wife of a former minister and that another former minister was also involved.
To date, Ezzat has not named any individuals or provided any evidence.
When contacted on May 17, he told Malaysiakini that he would hold a press conference. However, it has yet to be called.
Days after Ezzat’s allegations, PKR Youth chief Kamil Abdul Munim accused youth civil society organisation Mandiri of receiving RM1.5 million from the US-based left-leaning donor fund the Tides Foundation.

Kamil, who is also Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary at the Finance Ministry, claimed that the funds, which were allegedly linked to “political moves” by certain quarters, were used to pay cybertroopers to create anti-government narratives, among other things.
Mandiri has denied any wrongdoing and is moving to sue Kamil. - Mkini
