Give whistleblower status to businessperson charged over Farhash remarks - group

Crime

  • Malaysians Against Death Penalty and Torture (Madpet) has called on the government to withdraw charges against businessperson Sofia Rini Buyong for allegedly defaming Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, a businessperson and former aide to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

The charge is over remarks about Farhash during a conversation with businessperson Albert Tei, which the latter secretly recorded.

The same video also saw Sofia make allegations against Anwar, his ex-aide Shamsul Iskandar Akin, and former MACC chief Azam Baki in regard to the Sabah corruption scandal.

“What seems odd was why was her criminal defamation only related to Farhash and not Anwar, Azam, or the others?” Madpet also asked, adding that she should be given whistleblower protection.

Sofia is currently a witness in the MACC’s corruption case against Shamsul. - Mkini
