4 charged with murder after businessman’s body found in net

 No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Four men were charged in the Batu Pahat magistrates’ court today with murdering a businessman whose body was found wrapped in a net and floating in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, Parit Raja.

Harian Metro reported that the accused are lorry driver Yogesvaran Subramaniam, 40, lorry attendants Lim Yong Ming, 26, and Achuthan Nagarajan, 32, and used-car dealer How Han Wei, 33.

They are charged with jointly murdering Low Kai Xian, 39, between July 29 and Aug 3 between a restaurant in Jalan Emas Putih, Taman Sri Skudai, Johor Bahru, and Sungai Tanjung Sembrong.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code read with Section 34, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, with at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The four men nodded after magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno read out the charge to them. No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Oct 14 was fixed for case mention pending the post-mortem and forensic reports. No bail was offered to the accused.

Low’s family reported him as missing on July 29 after failing to contact him.

Police found his body wrapped in a net, with his hands and legs bound by adhesive tape and injuries to his waist and arms. - FMT
