6 Paskal officers rescued after missing landing site

KUALA LUMPUR:

Six members of the navy special warfare forces (Paskal) were rescued after drifting at sea when they missed their designated landing site during a free-fall parachuting exercise in the South China Sea yesterday.

In a statement today, the navy said they were recovered by a vessel after being found adrift at sea.

It said sudden weather changes had severely affected the jumpers’ visibility, causing them to miss the intended landing site.

“This proves the effectiveness of Paskal’s continuous and realistic training in preparing its personnel to face unforeseen circumstances.

“Beyond combat skills, this intensive training has been proven to foster high resilience, discipline and survival capabilities in extreme situations, in line with the motto ‘Sentiasa yang Terbaik’ (Always the Best),” it said.

The navy said it remains committed to balancing combat readiness with personnel safety to ensure the sovereignty of the nation’s waters remain safeguarded at all times. - FMT
