Amanah Youth has offered free legal services to individuals who received letters of demand (LODs) from Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki over comments related to the Tabung Haji royal commission of inquiry.
Amanah Youth national executive committee members Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda and Azri Abdullah described the former deputy religious affairs minister’s move as excessive.
“As a former deputy minister and a senior politician, Asyraf should understand that the Tabung Haji issue is a matter of public interest, particularly to Malay Muslims, and that he was the number two in the hierarchy of the ministry responsible for the fund belonging to Muslims,” they said.

On Aug 14, Asyraf instructed his lawyers to issue LODs ahead of RM5 million lawsuits against account owners over allegedly defamatory posts concerning Tabung Haji.
Fadhli and Azri, however, said the move appeared to suggest Asyraf was fearful of public criticism.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has completed a mandatory drug screening exercise for operationally active Malaysia Airlines (MAS) pilots, who all returned negative tests.
In a statement today, MAG said it will proceed with the next phase of the programme involving around 2,840 MAS cabin crew members on Aug 18, with completion targeted by Sept 3.

It noted that MAS’ sister airline, Firefly, is also progressing with its screening processes, with more than half of its 158 pilots and 163 cabin crew members returning negative results as of Aug 15.
MAG said Firefly is on track to complete screening for all its remaining pilots and cabin crew by Aug 25, well ahead of the Sept 5 deadline set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has reiterated a call for the government to set up a constituency development fund, following Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement yesterday of an additional RM1 million allocation for each parliamentary seat.
Amira, in a statement, questioned whether the allocation will be channelled through assigned parliamentary coordinators in opposition-held constituencies.

Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz “The question now is that the people do not know who the coordinators are. They know the MPs who they had voted for to represent them in the Dewan Rakyat,” said the former Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson.
Amira, who alluded to fundraisers by Muda’s Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, said they were prompted by a lack of federal allocations. - Mkini
