Container believed to be bound for Israel seized at Johor port

 

PETALING JAYA: A container believed to have been intended for export to Israel has been confiscated in Johor.

Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said that the container was detected and seized at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor on Friday (Aug 7).

“Based on preliminary checks, the shipment is suspected of violating Item No. 15 of the Second Schedule of the Customs (Prohibition of Exports) Order 2023, which prohibits the direct or indirect export of goods to Israel, in line with the Malaysian government’s policies and directives.

“The AKPS will conduct further investigations with the relevant authorities and agencies to verify the nature, specifications, intended use and classification of the goods, including determining whether they constitute strategic goods subject to controls under the Strategic Trade Act 2010 [Act 708] and related subsidiary legislation," it said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 8).

The agency added that any attempt to directly or indirectly export goods to Israel in violation of the law and government directives will be met with firm action. - Star
