Dining tables on public parking spots is not creative, just plain irresponsible

 

REAL estate space isn’t cheap, especially if a person happens to live right smack in the capital city of Malaysia.

We all know it, but  business owners know it better since their capacity to generate income is largely affected by said factor.

For example, restaurants only capture revenue from the amount of customers they can reasonably house within their limited space.

So it goes that some restaurants will find “creative” methods to extend their premises.

Take it from a video post on X by netizen @bckupacc99 which showed a restaurant placing its tables and chairs outside.

That shouldn’t be much of a problem if not for the fact that those tables are directly on top of the public parking spots.

In the video, a vigilante could be seen threatening the owner to remove the furniture or he would do it himself.

Based on the details provided in the video, viewers can easily determine that the scene was in Menjalara, Kepong.

A quick check on Google Maps also revealed that these parking spots by the side of the road were usually taken up by vehicles, so this is exceedingly irresponsible.

One can only say that this is an illegal parking reservation technique on a higher level.  

An article published by The Star dated 6 Dec 2025 mentioned that strict enforcement will be taken against car workshops, automotive accessory outlets, carwash and tyre shops that illegally occupy public parking bays, with offenders facing fines of RM1,000. 

Apparently Morning Sun Kopitiam did not get the memo. Now imagine the fines this particular restaurant will face from the authorities when we are to count all those parking spots they had taken up.

Businesses have every right to maximise their premises, but that should never come at the expense of everyone else.—  Focus Malaysia
