Good governance must underpin every government, says Hamzah

Rather than being just a political slogan, good governance must be a non-negotiable foundation of any government, Wawasan president Hamzah Zainudin said.

He said the Reset agenda he championed was not merely about changing the government, but about correcting how the country planned its economy, education, national unity and public welfare.

Hamzah said the agenda’s first pillar was to establish a common goal of building a more advanced and better-organised country.

He said the second pillar was shared prosperity, which could only be achieved by first expanding the country’s economy.

Hamzah said the concept could not be confined to economic growth figures but must translate into improvements in people’s daily lives.

“First, there must be food on the table.

“Second, people will want money in their pockets. Third, everyone must have a home and shelter,” he said in an interview with FMT.

On June 13, Hamzah announced that Wawasan, a rebrand of Parti Cinta Malaysia, would be the political vehicle for the Reset movement under the “New National Consensus” narrative.

The movement aims to strengthen political cooperation with various blocs and like-minded parties.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy chairman said the third pillar was “compassionate governance”, which went beyond good governance by incorporating a humane element.

He said good governance was already a basic requirement and should not be open to question.

Through this approach, Hamzah said the government should not view the wealthy, middle class and poor in isolation, but build a system in which every group felt protected.

“The rich will help those in need.

“As for the poor, the government will look at ways to uplift them. Everyone should feel that they can live peacefully in the country we love,” he added. - FMT
