Serian has joined Sri Aman as another area in Sarawak with “very unhealthy” air pollutant index (API) readings as of 4pm today, with the former recording an API of 228 behind the latter’s 229.
ADSAccording to the Environment Department’s portal, other areas in Sarawak with unhealthy readings included Sarikei (194), Samarahan (185), Kuching (180), Mukah (171), Sibu (166), Bintulu (156), Kapit (156), and Samalaju (149).
In the Klang Valley, Cheras continued to record the highest API reading at 160, followed by Shah Alam (157), Batu Muda (156), and Putrajaya (155).
Besides several locations in Penang, Kedah, Perak, and Negeri Sembilan, other parts of the nation recorded “moderate” API readings, with no “good” air quality observed nationwide.
Amid deteriorating air quality, asthma cases in the country have surged, with 1,811 cases recorded during epidemiological week (EW) 34 (Aug 23-29), compared with 219 cases in the previous week.
In a statement today, the Health Ministry said cases of conjunctivitis also rose to 720 from 146 in EW 33, while acute respiratory tract infections (URTI) fell by 50 percent, from 3,674 to 1,857 cases.
It added that while no deaths linked to complications arising from the haze have been reported, monitoring measures through the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) have been stepped up.

“I have actually contacted him, and he (Rauf) said he is waiting for several policy decisions at the central Umno and BN levels to proceed with discussions and so on,” Bernama reported Amirudin as saying.

Amirudin also cited Harapan’s cooperation with BN in Selangor during the last state election, saying Harapan had been willing to give up seats it previously won to facilitate the formation of the coalition government.
Kuala Lumpur police said the three family members found dead in a Desa ParkCity condominium last Thursday died from stab wounds.
Police chief Fadil Marsus said post-mortem examinations found that the son and daughter died from stab wounds to the neck, while their mother died from sharp-force trauma to the neck and chest.
