JDT midfielder Afiq Fazail wins M-League MVP award

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) midfielder Afiq Fazail capped a stellar 2025-2026 season by bagging the M-League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the first time in his career.

The 32-year-old played a key role in JDT’s campaign as the team completed a quadruple for the fourth time in Malaysian football, reported Berita Harian.

Afiq’s teammate, Arif Aiman Hanapi, created history after winning the MVP title for four consecutive seasons before Afiq’s win tonight.

Afiq had earlier been named Best Midfielder, beating Danial Amier Norhisham of Kuching City FC and Nooa Laine of Selangor FC. It was his third Best Midfielder award following his wins in 2022 and 2023.

He also contributed six assists last season, further underlining his importance to the JDT squad.

JDT dominated the awards after winning seven categories.

Goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi retained the Best Goalkeeper award for a fourth consecutive year, while Bergson da Silva was named Best Foreign Player for the fourth time since 2022.

Da Silva also won the Super League Golden Boot award with 27 goals.

JDT coach Xisco Munoz won Best Coach after guiding the team to the quadruple of the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup, Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

Selangor’s Faisal Abdul Halim won Best Forward after scoring 17 goals, while teammate Quentin Cheng was named Best Defender.

JDT also won Best Team, while its supporters’ group, Boys of Straits, won the Best Supporters award.

Other winners included Penang FC’s Haziq Kutty Abba (Best Young Player), Melaka FC (Fair Play award), Kuching City’s Ramadhan Saifullah Usman (Best Goal) and Safawi Rasid of KL City (Local Super League Golden Boot with 13 goals). - FMT
