Man reported missing last week found dead in WCE drain

IPOH: A man who was reported missing since July 29 has been found dead, with his skeletal remains found in a drain near Km55.7 southbound of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) here yesterday.

Bagan district police chief Datuk superintendent Mohammad Ali Mohd Jali said the remains of the 35-year-old man were found at the site where the motorcycle he was riding is believed to have skidded.

He said police received information regarding the incident at 3.39pm after cleaners cutting grass at the location detected a foul smell before finding the human remains and the motorcycle in the drain.

"Based on initial investigations, we believe that the victim, believed to be riding alone from Teluk Intan towards Sabak Bernam, skidded to the left side of the road and fell into the drain.

"The victim did not receive assistance after the crash until the incident was discovered, while some of the personal belongings retrieved included a mobile phone, a Malaysian passport and cash believed to belong to the victim," he said in a statement today.

He said further checks found that a missing person report had been lodged by the victim's family at the Teluk Intan police station on Aug 5.

Those with information regarding the incident can contact traffic investigating officer Insp Normah Abu Hassan at 010-536 4619, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - NST
