A more comprehensive legislative framework for higher education, outlined in the Malaysia Higher Education Plan 2026-2035, will replace the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA).
Bernama quoted Higher Education Minister Zambry Abd Kadir as saying the move is part of the agenda to establish a One Higher Education Act, launched in January 2026.
Zambry (above) said the UUCA covers not only student affairs and freedom, but also the establishment, administration, and governance of universities and university colleges. Its replacement, he added, must be more comprehensive, progressive, and aligned with the current and future needs of higher education.
