No suspicious findings after checks following viral Empire City video, say police

PETALING JAYA: Police have found no suspicious elements in checks prompted by a viral video claiming mysterious cries could be heard from a utility closet at Empire City's M Tower.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows several individuals standing outside what appears to be a utility or service room inside the building.

Throughout the recording, unusual sounds can be heard, with the person recording alleging they resembled a woman's muffled cries, prompting calls online for authorities to investigate.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police conducted inspections at the premises together with the building's security personnel after the video began circulating.

"Our personnel carried out inspections and all floors were checked by the security guards. Nothing suspicious was found.

"The security guards also heard the sound, but it was determined to have come from the building's water pipes," he said.

Shamsudin said water pressure in the pipes is what is believed to have produced the unusual noises.

"There was no indication of any criminal element or threat linked to the incident," he said. - FMT
