PAS leader calls for dissolution of Parliament if DAP leaves Cabinet

 

A PAS leader has argued that Malaysians should be given the opportunity to decide the country’s future through a fresh mandate if DAP withdraws from the Cabinet.

“If DAP decides to leave the Madani Government Cabinet, then it is no longer merely a matter of an administrative reshuffle,” said PAS Assistant Secretary-General Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil.

According to him, this is clear evidence that the government built in the name of ‘unity’ has begun to lose cohesion and the confidence of its own coalition partners.

“How can a government claim to be stable when the second-largest party in the coalition is no longer willing to shoulder responsibility for administering the country?” he pointed out.

However, Khairul acknowledged that, under the Federal Constitution, the government would not necessarily collapse if DAP Members of Parliament continued to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Nevertheless, he maintained that the public did not want a government to remain in power simply because it still commanded sufficient support in Parliament.

Khairul’s remarks came after DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke said party delegates would decide at the party’s national congress on Aug 16 whether DAP should remain in the unity government until the end of the current parliamentary term.

Loke said delegates would vote on a motion concerning the party’s continued participation in the government, including whether its representatives should continue serving in the Cabinet.

“The most honourable and democratic course of action is to seek the dissolution of Parliament and return the mandate to the people,” said Khairul.— Focus Malaysia
