Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Mohd Rosli said the investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 was launched after a report was lodged by a 29-year-old man at 11.14am today.
"The police will investigate the identity of the account owner and subsequently conduct an investigation in accordance with legal procedures," he said in a statement today.
He said the latest post on the Facebook account, among other things, alleged that police officers had kicked a motorcyclist during a joint operation at Pantai Penunjuk, Kijal, near here, about 6.30pm yesterday.
"The allegation that police officers kicked one of the motorcyclists is baseless, as can be seen in a recording that went viral on social media.
"The statement was malicious, and the public is urged to verify the content of any post that has the potential to incite hatred against the police," he said.
He added that the operation was carried out following public complaints about illegal racing activities that were disturbing public order. - NST
