Rosmah gets conditional stay over RM67.46m jewellery judgment

KUALA LUMPUR: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has been allowed to temporarily put off paying RM67.46 million to Lebanese jewellery company Global Royalty Trading SAL, pending her appeal at the Court of Appeal.

However, the High Court ordered Rosmah to place the full RM67,461,027.37 judgment sum in a joint account held by the lawyers for both parties within one month from today.

Judicial commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani granted Rosmah a conditional stay of execution, meaning she does not have to pay the money directly to Global Royalty while her appeal is pending, provided she complies with the court's order.

Marianne said the arrangement would protect Global Royalty's right to the money if Rosmah's appeal failed, while ensuring the funds remained in Malaysia and could be returned to Rosmah if her appeal succeeded.

On June 10, High Court judge Datuk Quay Chew Soon ordered Rosmah, 75, to pay RM67.5 million to Global Royalty over 43 pieces of jewellery allegedly loaned to her.

The suit centred on 44 pieces of luxury jewellery worth US$14.57 million (about RM68.3 million), which Global Royalty said were supplied to Rosmah in 2018 on a consignment basis for viewing.

The company claimed the jewellery remained its property and was never returned, prompting it to sue Rosmah for compensation. - NST
