PETALING JAYA:
Julau MP Larry Sng this evening revealed that he quit PKR in 2021 partly due to “excessive pressure” from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

Commenting on the decision by former PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua and Dr Xavier Jayakumar to rejoin the party, Sng said had it not been for LHDN, he would have still been in PKR.

“Anyway, that’s the past,” he wrote on Facebook without going into detail.

When contacted, Sng said the PKR leadership then was aware of the LHDN situation, but he left because no help was forthcoming.

“I am absolutely certain that the investigation was politically motivated.

“I was the Sarawak PKR chief at the time, which was the opposition then,” he said, adding that LHDN was “plucking figures from nowhere” when they began to probe him.

Sng had said five years ago that his decision to quit PKR was made after he consulted his voters over a few days, and described the move to leave as “a collective decision”.

He said the constituency was the poorest in the country and he was unable to serve effectively because of a lack of funds as he was in the opposition.

As a result, he said, he decided to switch his support to the Perikatan Nasional government led by then prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

He went on to lead Parti Bangsa Malaysia, which was rebranded from Sarawak Workers Party, in late 2021.

This evening, Sng wrote that he valued the experience gained by being part of a national party and getting to know national leaders from West Malaysia personally.

“It has also given me insight and appreciation into the importance of being in the government and the pains of being in the opposition,” he said. - FMT
