Two upside down flags, one factory and plenty of questions as Merdeka day draws closer

THE national flag is a powerful symbol of sovereignty, identity and unity. In international flag conventions, an inverted national flag has sometimes been used as a signal that a country is in serious distress.

Accidentally displaying it upside down, particularly because someone didn’t know the correct orientation, is very different from doing it deliberately to provoke people.

But how many can claim ignorance when such a basic knowledge is taught even during primary school.

Apparently someone from Autotech Automotive Malaysia Sdn Bhd must have played truant too many times during schooling to miss out on such a vital lesson.

In a viral video post on Facebook by MiLo SuaM, not one, but two flags could be seen flown within the compound of the factory in Kulai.

What are the chances of having two flags accidentally placed upside down? Netizens have much to say about it too as seen in the comment section.

Nazri D Anwar, for example, said he is curious to know how Akmal will react to the situation, now that the inverted flags are found in a state ruled by BN.

The Akmal in the comment is no other than UMNO firebrand and youth chief, Akmal Saleh, who was very vocal towards incidents involving inverted flags or other elements of disrespect towards the national identity.

“Where is Akmal,” asked Ucu Aki Sunuk.

Muhammad Amin further warned that Akmal will soon come up with a statement that people were attempting to sabotage Johor.

Then there was Fadzli Segri suggesting that the Chief Minister of Johor, Onn Hafiz resign.

Several netizens sarcastically said that this was the fault of DAP too, considering that UMNO loves to blame the political party for whatever ill that happened in the country.

“Thankfully DAP is not a Member of the State Legislative Assembly,” said Zulaikha Rahman, or DAP would have taken the blame.

Away from the jokes and sarcasm, Johor Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor warned that the state government views the incident seriously.

According to him, the Municipal council of Kulai has already taken actions to close down the premises indefinitely until the company comes forward to give an explanation as well as complete the Aku Janji form.

At the same time, the Royal Malaysia Police is conducting an investigation, while the director of the company in question will be summoned immediately to provide an explanation.—  Focus Malaysia
