PAS deputy president says Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement that he is forming a new coalition signals that Bersatu will not remain in the coalition.
Tuan Ibrahim said Muhyiddin’s announcement about forming a new coalition signalled that Bersatu would not remain in PN.
“Secondly, Muhyiddin himself said that PN is already damaged and that PAS was behind the damage. So if PN is already damaged, why would he want (Bersatu) to remain in a supposedly damaged coalition?
“It is unlikely that he would want to remain in a coalition that he considers damaged,” he said.
Muhyiddin, when launching Bersatu’s election machinery for the Negeri Sembilan election, claimed the coalition he had founded became toxic after straying from its original principles.
He said while people used to be proud of PN and confident in its ability to win many seats in elections, it was now “damaged”.
Muhyiddin said PAS, which currently leads PN, failed to demonstrate its ability to govern and uphold democratic principles.
Bersatu contested the Negeri Sembilan polls under its own logo, even while remaining a component party of PN. The coalition contested 11 state seats and its ally, Barisan Nasional (BN), the remaining 25 seats.
The BN-PN alliance won a total of 25 seats, with the remainder secured by Pakatan Harapan.
PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar yesterday said Bersatu was still a component of the coalition, contradicting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that Bersatu had automatically ceased to be a PN member.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz meanwhile said the party planned to file a report with the Registrar of Societies over its status as a PN component. - FMT
