Bomb threat at JB’s Mid Valley Southkey a hoax

Police have confirmed that a bomb threat targeting a business premises at The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru, is false.

In a statement, Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said the mall management alerted police to an email threatening a bomb attack on a business premises there.

He said bomb disposal units from the Johor police headquarters and Johor Bahru Selatan police headquarters were deployed to the location to conduct security checks and a sweep of the premises.

“Security checks were carried out around the interior and exterior areas of The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey, in cooperation with the premises’ security team,” he said.

During the inspection, several suspicious objects were found and examined by the bomb disposal teams.

Rahaman said the inspection found that the objects contained no explosive materials and the affected area was declared safe.

In July, police received a report about an email claiming that a bomb had been planted at Centrepoint South Tower, Mid Valley City in Kuala Lumpur.

They said the threat was believed to be a hoax.

Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the email was likely sent with the intention of causing fear and disrupting public safety. - FMT
