SHAH ALAM: The High Court here today found the government liable for losses suffered by residents of Taman Sri Muda during the devastating December 2021 floods.
The ruling came in a suit filed by 50 residents who accused the authorities of negligence and breaches of duty in their handling of the disaster.
Senior federal counsel Liew Horng Bin, when asked whether the government would appeal the ruling, said he was not in a position to comment at the moment.
The residents had sued the government and nine others, claiming that failures in flood management, drainage, weather warnings and disaster response had contributed to the losses they suffered.
They are seeking RM3,767,148.51 in special damages, as well as general and aggravated damages. - NST
