KKIA runway reopens after final safety checks

 Passengers travelling to and from the airport are advised to check with their airlines for updates and the latest status of their flights.

The runway at KKIA was temporarily closed yesterday to facilitate rectification works.

The runway at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), which was closed to facilitate rectification works, reopened at 11.30pm yesterday after final safety checks.

In an update on its Facebook page, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said flight operations could now resume.

It also advised passengers travelling to and from KKIA to check with their airlines for the latest flight status and updates.

The runway was temporarily closed at 2.45pm yesterday, affecting at least 20 flights, both arrivals and departures.

Checks by Bernama at the airport found several flights delayed or cancelled, while several arriving services were diverted to Labuan and Sandakan.

The disruption left some passengers waiting several hours for updates, with many repeatedly checking flight information displays and airline notifications for revised departure and arrival times. - FMT
