Loke calls for emergency Harapan meeting after Zahid's dare; FGV appoints audit firm for probe

Politics

- DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has urged Pakatan Harapan chairperson and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to convene an emergency Harapan presidential council meeting following comments by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Loke reportedly said the meeting is needed to address concerns over political uncertainty stemming from indications that parties in the unity government are not “heading in the same direction.”

Free Malaysia Today quoted Loke, who is also the transport minister, as adding that such perceived turmoil could affect investors and the public’s confidence in the government.

Felda

- FGV Holdings Bhd, a subsidiary of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), has appointed an independent audit firm to conduct a forensic audit regarding specific matters involving an entity with corporate ties to the group.

In a statement today, Felda said the appointment process, which is also being carried out for several of its other subsidiaries, is in line with recommendations from the prime minister, the MACC, and a special committee on its direction.

Anwar previously said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had requested the government to look into Felda’s dealings, following probes into Tabung Haji’s losses.

Refugees

- Police have urged the public not to resort to vigilantism over issues related to the Rohingya community, and report incidents or issues to authorities instead.

Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Noor Hisam Nordin said this after several social media influencers reportedly entered Rohingya settlements to draw attention to the community’s presence, Bernama reported.

Noor Hisam expressed concern that they could overstep legal boundaries when dealing with the Rohingya, and advised members of the public not to be influenced by provocations and negative messages circulating on social media about the community. - Mkini
