Massive late-night crash completely blocks NKVE northbound

KUALA LUMPUR: All northbound lanes of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) near Shah Alam were blocked following a late-night accident, bringing traffic to a standstill shortly before midnight.

The accident occurred at Km8.4 on the northbound stretch from Setia Alam towards Shah Alam.

In an update at 11.27pm, PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) said all northbound lanes were blocked and advised motorists to exit at the Setia Alam toll plaza and use alternative routes.

At 12.04am, PLUS said the situation remained unchanged, with traffic still at a standstill. The right lane of the southbound carriageway was also obstructed.

"Northbound traffic is not moving. Use alternative routes and exit at the Setia Alam or Bukit Raja toll plazas," it said.

Photographs and video from the scene showed what appeared to be a large overhead highway gantry lying across the carriageway, with several heavy vehicles, including lorries, nearby.

Debris was scattered across the highway and central divider, while emergency vehicles were seen at the scene.

Photographs from the opposite carriageway showed a long queue of vehicles caught in the congestion.

The cause of the accident and whether there were any casualties were not immediately known. - NST
