More than 10 hectares of peatland catch fire in Pengerang

KOTA TINGGI: More than 10 hectares of peatland in Kampung Sungai Buntu, Pengerang, near here, caught fire today.

Sungai Rengit Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Shahrizal Aspar said a team was deployed to the scene after the department received a distress call at 1.13pm.

He said 6.07 hectares of the affected area had so far been extinguished.

"Efforts to put out the fire were also assisted by the Sungai Rengit Volunteer Fire Brigade.

"The area affected by the fire is expected to increase due to the hot weather and strong winds," he said. - NST
