IPOH, Sept 12 — The left lane of the North-South Expressway near a landslide at Kilometre 263.6 southbound will be closed along a one-kilometre stretch as a safety precaution, police said today.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the closure would extend from Kilometre 262.8 to Kilometre 263.8, with safety cones placed along the route.
He said no contraflow lane had been activated and traffic conditions were being continuously monitored.
“CCTV cameras at the nearby vista point will be focused on the incident site to allow continuous monitoring of the landslide area and traffic flow along the route,” he said in a statement.
Police, PLUS Malaysia Berhad and other relevant agencies are continuing to monitor the site to ensure the safety of highway users.
Mohd Alwi advised motorists to follow instructions and safety signs, reduce their speed and drive carefully when passing through the area.
The Malaysian Highway Authority said yesterday that the slope collapse between the Menora Tunnel and Ipoh had caused congestion stretching up to 15 kilometres. — Bernama
